“And the Shepherds went back, glorifying and praising God for all that they had heard and seen, just as had been told them.” Luke 2:20
This is the time of year when Christmas songs fill up the areas of our lives. (Unless you are at Hobby Lobby and then it has been going on since July). Many of you know how much Stephanie loves music. But you may not know how much she loves Christmas music! I must force her to wait until after Thanksgiving before she forces the sugar sweet melodic tones upon my ears.
But there is one song which she absolutely hates. Every time it comes on, she rolls her eyes and then shoots me a look which says (without words) you better skip this song. And so, as a loving husband, I dutifully skip the song (after letting it play a wee bit longer) and all is well again. What is the song? Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.
I cannot tell you how many times I have heard, “I don’t want a merry “little” Christmas. I want a BIG Christmas.” For Stephanie, Christmas is a special time when she really does focus on one of the greatest events to ever happen. God Himself becoming Emmanuel and walking on this Earth with us.
So, we decorate, go to parties, have get-togethers, buy presents, fix extra food, and yes sing the Christmas songs (except for one). That is what you do when you celebrate! You do extra things, you go more places, and you make the day a big day.
I know our calendars are full and our schedules are busy but remember why. Hopefully, it is all for the purpose of focusing our attention and celebrating the first coming of Christ and remember that He is coming again.
Following Him,
Jeff
