Freedom from Fear

“The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom should I fear? The Lord is the defense of my life; Whom shall I dread?” ~ Psalm 27:1

I heard the other day that the new currency of our society is fear. What they mean by that is if you can get people to be afraid of you whether justified or not, then you have power and can command people to do whatever you want.  And we have seen this play out over and over again lately.

But we as believers have a reason to not fall for this trap of the world and to be free from all these traps of society. We do not have to be afraid of anything because of the Lord. He is with us. He is our light. This means He shows us the way to go but also reveals the dark motives and intentions of the heart.

He is also our salvation. This means we are His and He always takes care of His own. He has promised His salvation for us when we trust in Him and there is nothing the world can do to prevent Him from doing it.

Finally, He is our defense. We don’t have to speak up for ourselves or worry about who is going to fight for us. He has promised He would do it. He will never leave or forsake us. He is with us even to the end of the world. So, we do not have to worry or be afraid. No dread or fear has to be a part of our lives. This gives us freedom to live in such a way that is joyful and peaceful.

No wonder they sang this psalm to Him!
