“Glory to God”

“Glory to God in the highest heaven, and peace on Earth to people He favors.” Luke 2:14

This past year, we have been “Rediscovering God” each Sunday morning. And as we close out this series in the next several weeks, it will culminate in the one attribute of God which exemplifies Him more than any other. His Glory!

I firmly believe we have little to no concept of what His glory entails. And yet, when God shows up in the most incredible ways on the Earth, it is His glory which is displayed. So, when the angels sing praise over the fact that Jesus was born, their first words are “Glory to God.”

They are so overwhelmed and excited at the plan of God; they break out into worship and try to ascribe some kind of feeling or description of who He is. So, they sing out glory. They acknowledge who and what He is.

It speaks to everything God is and does. It is understanding, even in a limited way, that He is above and beyond all things and yet, He came here to be with us and among us. No longer will His glory be the separating factor which keeps Him at a distance which we could never reach or know, but now God has drawn near to be Emmanuel.

But for that to happen Jesus had to empty Himself and take on the form as a human and walk and live among us and show us what it means to truly live in the light in this dark cold world. He showed us the length, depth, and width of His love for us.

Because of that, we can experience peace because of the prince of peace. We no longer have to be afraid of what is going on, or the state of the world, or anything else which cause anxiety and worry. We can live at peace because God still has His glory, and no one could ever possibly take it away from Him.

Following Him,

Jeff
