“Ecclesiastes 7:13-14”
I’ve been thinking a lot about inspiration lately. The literal meaning of inspiration is “God Breathed.” Of course, the most glaring example of inspiration we know. But can we be inspired as well? Maybe not on the same level as the Scriptures, but still be inspired as well?
I have desperately wanted to know the answer to this question, so over the last several months, I’ve been praying, researching and seeking the Lord about this. Because if we can be inspired by God, then I want that more than anything.
I started this quest by looking at history. The arts were the most obvious examples of where we may be able to find people who were inspired by God for a purpose. I read about the renaissance painters and sculptures who predominately depicted Biblical scenes and people. They would often talk about visions, dreams, and compulsions which drove them to complete their masterpieces.
Then I looked to music, both past and present, and would read about how in times of tragedy and sorrow and also times of awe and reverence, a song would be planted in their minds and hearts which would go on to touch millions of people.
I, too, have experienced times of preaching, where the words which came out of my mouth were clearly not my own. Many other preachers and teachers have expressed the same sentiments as well.
Through all of this it seemed clear to me, that inspiration still happens today. Once again not on the level of Scriptures but nevertheless, inspiration. So, over the next couple months we will examine the ways and means which God inspires us and why it is so necessary for us to live in that world.
Following Him,
Pastor Jeff
