“But for you who fear My name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in His wings, and you will go out and playfully jump like calves from the stall.” ~ Mal. 4:2
It’s finally here!!! The time of year which I look forward to more than any other time of year. Of course, I am talking about summer. There is just something special about summer for me. This time of year is when I spend more time outside, travel more and simply enjoy the opportunities which summer affords than any other time of year.
There are 2 main reasons I love summer so much. The first reason is because of the sun. When the sun is out the top comes off the Jeep, the doors come off and there is this incredible sense of freedom. No longer being constrained by the shackles of cold, I can now bask in the rays of light and enjoys the summer breezes through my hair. (figuratively speaking of course)
Since it is sunnier longer and the result is warmer weather to even hot, I know this is a challenge to many people, but for me it is sweet relief. Because of many years of injuries to my ankles, knees, and hips, I ache most of the time. And when it gets cold, there are days when it is unbearable. But when the heat comes, I can move relatively pain free and frolic along to my heart’s content.
Malachi tells us there is coming a day when the Lord is going to come and He will be the Sun of Righteousness and we will be healed. It will be like summer for me all year long. We will be changed, and we will live with Him and for Him for eternity. What an incredible thought to consider!
But what to do while we wait for that day? We continue to pray, we continue to share the Gospel with those around us, we focus not on the things of this world but rather the people who live around us, and we simply serve Him in spirit and truth.
So, enjoy this summer with us as we anticipate the arrival of the Sun of Righteousness.
Following Him,
Pastor Jeff
